It's that time of year again!! Time to elect a new council for the U of C Catholic Community. Lots of Council Members are moving on and we need new members. I encourage everyone to pray about joining and taking an active leadership role in the community! Please speak with any of the Council member after Masses to find out roles, and watch your email for more details.

The University of Calgary Catholic Community provides a presence within the University setting intended to enable students, faculty and staff, and the community at large to share their faith and to foster a lived commitment to their Roman Catholic Faith. We encourage students toward active participation, thereby training them for leadership, not only in the Church but in society. To be of service, spiritually, personally, or financially, to those in the greater community. To model what a faith community can be through sacramental preparation and good liturgy.

Here is a list of the council positions and a brief description of each (watch your email for more in-depth descriptions next week):

Chair - Organize council meetings, send out the weekly email, work with Chaplain and Council members to coordinate activities.
Vice-Chair - Work with Chair and other members of council.
Social events - Organize all social events such as the Christmas Banquet, BBQ's, Benefit Concert, etc.
Social Justice - Work with Council to organize social justice events such as volunteering with the Jesus Loves You Society, Sandwich Making for the Drop-in Centre, and be in charge of researching Charities for the Benefit Concert and other events.
Campus Coordinator - Coordinate events on campus and be in touch with the Student Union regarding on-campus events.
Spiritual Development Coordinator - Organize Retreats in the Community; the Fall Retreat and the Lenten Retreat. This person is in charge of lining up a Retreat Leader (speaker), theme, and location to nourish the Community in the Faith.
Liturgical Coordinator - coordinate the set-up for Masses and organizing readers and Eucharistic Minister Training. Training will be provided for this person.

The University Catholic Community exists because everyone works together to make things happen. The main mission of the UCCC is to establish community and build one another up in leadership and encourage one another in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church. If you are interested in running for Council, please email uofccatholic@gmail.com by April 26th.
