UCCC Chaplain

Fr. Haven Tran, O.P.

Fr. Haven Tran, O.P., a Catholic priest, followed his calling into the Dominican Order on September 6, 1995 and began his first religious profession as the Novitiate on August 14, 1999. He was ordained in June 30, 2007 in Vietnam. He has a BSc. in Psychology, BA in Sacred Theology, BA in Education Admin in Vietnam, and then pursued the MA in Leadership & Ministry at Ambrose University in Calgary in 2015.

Since his ordination, he has served God’s people as a Sacristan of the Holy Rosary church in Vietnam where he had led a large youth group for their social and spiritual development to promote their faith in God. He also organized and established a number of dormitories to gather all the disadvantaged youth and enhance their life standards. In addition, he provided religious education to a number of Catholic classrooms for all the brothers and sisters in their life of devotion.

He was then sent to Calgary, AB Canada in May 2011 for a mission where he was appointed as the Director of St. Martin de Porres’ Association for the Vietnamese Dominican Vicariate and the Associate Pastor at St. Vincent Liem Parish. He has preached regionally in Western Canada and called for the Dominican vocation within the Vietnamese communities in North America. Upon his graduate studies in Leadership and Ministry, he was then appointed to be Chaplain at the University of Calgary from the office of the Calgary Diocese.

With his great experience in working with the youth and great interest in promoting the future of all the youth and their faith in God, he again looks forward to his dedication and contribution in the spiritual guidance of the U of C Catholic Community during his term as a Chaplain at the University of Calgary.

Personally, Fr. Haven is open-minded, sensible, approachable and supportive. His hobbies and interests are reading, playing piano, guitar and football. He constantly strives for opportunities to learn and grow from one another in the love of God in order to promote our society with the righteousness.
